Barrie 1958-2007

Wendy Hicks was a major figure in the Barrie community for nearly 50 years.

As you’ll see in sub-pages, she was active in TV & radio, theatre, newspapers, churches, and Georgian College.

The Hicks family moved to Barrie in 1958, living on Johnson Street in the east end. Dr. Hicks joined the practice of Dr. Ross Turnbull at Dunlop & Poyntz Streets, and the two families became good friends along with Maurice MacLaren.

Wendy’s son Tim left for university in 1967, and lived in Toronto until moving to B.C. with his own family in 1981.  Wendy and John moved to Debra Crescent in the 70s, and narrowly escaped the 1985 hurricane, sustaining only moderate damage to the house.

Dr. Hicks passed away in 1999. Wendy moved to Tollendale Acres in 2004, and made many new friends there. After a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease in 2007, she moved to Victoria, B.C. to be near her son and his family.
