PrAnneCSCF – In November 1958, after interviewing the national president of the Canadian Save the Children Fund, Wendy started a Barrie branch and was Chairman until 1987. She talked to service clubs and other organizations about the Fund, and organized the Miles for Millions Walk in 1969, raising $26,000, and similar walks in 1971 and 1973. She met Princess Anne as part of this role.

Nana-reads-to-G-1985Tornado – in 1985, the Debra Cr. house was moderately damaged by a tornado. Wendy and John lived in a house in Shanty Bay during the repair process. While there, Wendy read stories to her grandson Graham, then five. “Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin.”

 

 

 

Rotary Award – In 1987 Wendy became the first woman to receive the Barrie Rotary Club Vocational Service Award. This award is presented to an individual in the community for fulfillment of the Rotary Ideal of Service, who has shown outstanding achievement in their vocation by encouraging high ethical standards and by dignifying that vocation as an opportunity to serve society.


Gardening: Wendy’s gGarden-CommBloomardens at Debra Crescent grew a bit each year, eventually winning several awrds.

In 2005, brothers Peter and Terry and their wives Gail and Pat came from England to join the large crowd at a reception in honour of Wendy’s 80th birthday.
